Schumacher: “The best is yet to come”

Out of the race for victory from the first turn following a collision with Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher ultimately finished the second round of the championship in tenth position. This weekend in Sepang the German hopes that luck will smile on him more than in Australia.

“There are a lot of positives to take away from the Melbourne race weekend, declares the pilot Mercedes. It may not be obvious at first, but if you look more closely, we have made real progress and have good reason to be satisfied. If you analyze qualifying, Nico and I could have gained two or three places, and in hindsight, my settings were too conservative and too focused on the Sunday race. All of this means that we are not that far away and I am confident that the best is yet to come. We are going to Malaysia this weekend with the pleasant feeling of having progressed a lot since Bahrain. I really enjoyed fighting on the track again in Melbourne, even if I only got one point, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this new battle in Sepang. »

A reassuring speech which says a lot about the motivation of the six-time German world champion and the potential of an MGP W01 whose margin for improvement seems relatively significant.
