Schumacher “didn’t throw in the towel”

Michael Schumacher, for his return in F1 after three years of absence, has few satisfying races to get his teeth into. His best result remains a fourth place during the Spanish Grand Prix, during which he took advantage of a good new pace to beat several of his rivals. The German driver knows that he is not competitive enough and readily admits it, but he does not forget that his car remains the determining element in his performance.

« I've been competing long enough to know how things go., says Schumi. We need a car that we don't have at the moment in order to fight at the forefront. Occasionally, we can be close to the first but it's not really there yet. We continue to work hard. Our ultimate goal remains to win the World Championship. It is not in a single year that a new team like ours can hope to achieve this objective. What is important is to continue to progress and move forward. »

However, Mercedes seems in difficulty compared to the three best teams on the field. And, despite the heavy work undertaken at the Brackley factory, the German driver knows that he will have to postpone his ambitions for an eighth title until next season, barring an improbable turnaround. “ I am quite satisfied with the way the team is working and developing the car. But, for my part, it will be difficult to fight for the championship. On the other hand, Nico is in a good place for this. So we haven't thrown in the towel yet. »
