Schumi: “Happy to take a breather”

Michael Schumacher (Mercedes), eleven months after the announcement of his return to Formula 1, can take a well-deserved break, before preparing for the 2011 season. The German driver, who had to take on the challenge of ending three years of retirement, ended this season with the Pirelli tests, which allowed him to discover the tire that will equip Formula 1 next year.

The German is satisfied with his day of driving and is ironic about his seniority in F1. “ It was my first day of testing for the 2011 season, a rather interesting day. We have recorded a lot of data and ideas, as well as positive feedback regarding the new tires, which are only a first version at the moment. I am certainly the only driver to have already driven on Pirelli tyres, but that was 20 years ago, so I had no expectations. »

Michael Schumacher is not disappointed with the Pirelli tire but knows that this test does not allow us to make projections for next season. “ Everything went well. In terms of regularity, it looks good. But we were driving the 2010 cars and it's a question of whether these tires will fit the 2011 car well. »

Beyond the Pirelli tests, Schumi took the wheel of the Mercedes for the last time this season. He is satisfied with the work done since the start of the year but is also happy to be able to take a breather. “ I would have liked to try them more but I'm also very happy to be able to take a breather. I think the boys do too, and they deserve it. I would like to thank them. They did a good job this year and I was delighted to work with them. »
