Schumi believes in his eighth title

Michael Schumacher, announcing his return in Formula 1 on December 23, 2009, had only one objective: to win an eighth World Champion title. After a few races in 2010, we had to face the facts that it would not be the year of his return. Many even recalled that they had warned that it was very difficult to regain one's level and physical form after such a long absence (three years).

But Schumi believes in it, more than ever. The German, who has never felt comfortable in the W01, hopes that the W02 will better suit his driving specificities. Does he think he can win an eighth title? “Absolutely,” he replied to F1 Racing without hesitation.

And the seven-time World Champion recalled his initial objective: “We had a three-year project. It's true that, at the moment, we are not where we would like to be. But we have put a lot into this comeback and are optimistic that we can get there. »

The German also believes that his long absence is a handicap to be erased little by little. “In the history of Formula 1, when have we seen someone come back from this level to win in a single year. This has only happened very rarely. »

But, for his second consecutive year at Mercedes, the former pilot Ferrari is full of hope. “I am convinced that we can fight for victories this year and maybe even for the championship. I hope so. I set a goal for myself and I want to achieve it. I will give 100%. If I don't make it in 2011, it will be in my last year. »
