Fourth in Barcelona, Michael Schumacher was on course to score some valuable points at the end of the Monaco Grand Prix. Sixth at the finish, the German was demoted by the commissioners to twelfth position for having overtaken Fernando Alonso in the last corner, when no overtaking was allowed.
Offended the pilot Mercedes is keen to make his return to the points this weekend in Turkey.
“The Turkish fans have always been very nice to me, says the seven-time world champion. It will therefore be a pleasure for me to race again at Istanbul Park, in front of a crowd who I hope will support us enthusiastically. For our part, we will obviously try to give them something to get excited about and we hope to be able to make further progress in Turkey, after the improvements seen in Barcelona and then in Monaco. Istanbul Park is a special route. You drive counterclockwise, it is a little hilly and has many turns whose configurations diverge completely. It is therefore very pleasant to drive there. I'm looking forward to it, especially as the guys at the factory have worked so hard recently to give us an even better car. We want their work to pay off.”
Fourth in Barcelona before his misadventure in Monaco, the return of the Grands Prix seemed to have done Michael Schumacher good. It remains to confirm this renewed form this weekend in Turkey.
