Focusing on tires for Paul Hembery

After a 2013 season marked by spectacular punctures of Pirelli tires during the British Grand Prix, the Italian manufacturer organized a development test session at the end of December to best prepare for the 2014 season. Following the first session winter tests in Jerez where no incidents on the trans tiresalpines was not to be deplored, Paul Hembery hopes that the teams will step up their work during the next sessions in Bahrain scheduled for February 19.

“In Jerez, the teams were just trying to get an understanding of this new package and do the first kilometers with their new cars. »
Hembery explains. “With so much to understand about the new Power Units (Editor’s note: V6 turbo/hybrid) and aerodynamic rules, the teams simply aimed to increase their knowledge of single-seaters. The upcoming test in Bahrain should allow them to focus a little more on the tires, having had two weeks to develop their cars and remedy the issues that were identified at Jerez. »

The director of Pirelli Motorsport adds that the Italian manufacturer is ready to adapt if necessary. “We too are completely open, flexible and ready to adapt our tires after testing in Bahrain, where more significant testing will take place. »
