Sean Bratches: “F1 cherishes its heritage”

English fans of the F1 can be relieved: Silverstone will continue to host the premier category of motorsport until 2024, as confirmed yesterday by Liberty Media on the sidelines of the British Grand Prix.

And this while the possibility of seeing a race contested in the streets of London has resurfaced in recent weeks. Without the prospect of one day seeing an event near the capital being excluded by the owners of the discipline, history has for the moment taken precedence.

“I think one of the things we have always been aware of is that Formula 1 is a sport that deeply cherishes its heritage and it is important for us to preserve it as much as possible, estimates Sean Bratches, commercial director of Liberty Media.

Over the past two years, we have reached agreements with many of the great historic sites of our sport. We have concluded agreements with Spa and with Suzuka, we have concluded a long-term agreement with Monaco and we are engaged in a very constructive dialogue with Monza. »

But the Americans should logically continue their policy of expansion. Vietnam, the Netherlands, with a return to Zandvoort, are among the upcoming destinations, with Miami also appearing to be in the running. And interest appears to be growing from other destinations.

“It's exciting to bring new venues and it's always good to have people and venues wanting to sit at our table, Bratches continues. A number of parties are trying to bring in Formula 1 and we are exploring many opportunities. That kind of dynamism is good for the sport and good for the fans. »

It remains to be seen the future of several “hinge” meetings on the calendar, notably Spain with Barcelona or Germany, which still remains unresolved.
