Sebastian Vettel delighted fans by climbing to the last step of the podium at the Italian Grand Prix. The pilot of the Team Ferrari climbed into second place during the first lap taking advantage of the poor start of Lewis Hamilton, but the four-time world champion was quickly caught by the Briton who attempted a one-stop strategy.
“The public applauded us as if we had won the race, Sebastian Vettel was surprised. It was a superb day. Kimi (Räikkönen) and I had a good race even though we were hoping to take second and third place after the start. But the Mercedes were just too fast. I hoped to overtake Nico at the start, but I don't think it would have changed anything in the finishing order given the pace they had. »
His teammate finished just off the podium by following the first SF 16-H throughout the race.
“The two-stop strategy was the quickest way to reach the finish line, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to achieve a better result, analyzed the 2007 world champion. This result is okay, it wasn't what we were hoping for, but it's what we got. We seem to be moving in the right direction again and we must continue on this path. »
