Sebastian Vettel: “I could have been faster”

He no longer took pole position from Canada, on June 8. While he took the best performance at the very end qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps, Sebastian Vettel thought I had done the hardest part. But Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes were going to steal the best time from him a few seconds later. Second in the end, the pilot Red Bull is quite satisfied with its performance: “I'm happy today, the team did a good job with the change from slick tires to the intermediate tires which allowed me to complete an extra lap, it was a good day for the team. »

Q3, like Q1, was marked by very rapidly changing weather conditions, which de facto had repercussions on the track. While the rain appeared at the very beginning of the session and quickly intensified, it stopped just as suddenly. The track, tricky, gradually drying out to become faster and faster. A real headache for drivers and teams. « It wasn?t clear if the first lap we did in Q3 was THE lap we needed to do on intermediate tires, » judges the German, who had set off, like everyone else with the exception of Paul di Resta (Force India), on slick tires.

“We started with dry tires, which was quite amusing as it started to rain violently., relates the three-time reigning world champion. We expected to have more water, so we rushed to set a time, but that's when the rain stopped and the circuit became very fast again. The last lap proved to be the fastest with the track drying out, but it was still difficult to know how fast we could go. I saw Lewis catch me and I think I could have been faster here and there. »
