When did you make your decision?
This already takes us back years... It's not a decision I made overnight as you might expect. The final decision was made yesterday (Wednesday), when I confirmed to the team that I would stop and not continue. But there was a huge amount of thinking before that. I think it's the right time for me to do something else. I know how intense this environment is, how difficult being successful in F1 is in terms of motivation and sacrifice. If you do it, you have to do it well. I didn't see any motivation to just continue to be there day to day, just to be part of that world. My goal has always been to win and fight up front. I have been very privileged to have driven some very fast cars and been part of some incredible teams in the past. This stable (Aston Martin) has nothing to envy of others in terms of greatness. We weren't as strong as we would have liked to be, and we didn't fight up front, but in terms of state of mind, effort, work, quality, there is great ingredients here for Aston Martin to continue to progress in the coming years.
