Sebastian Vettel mocks rain in Brazil

Sebastian Vettel braved the rainy weather to win the 45th pole of his career at the Brazilian Grand Prix, which also represents his second in a row after that obtained in Austin. Despite the terrible conditions which pushed the FIA to delay the start of Q40 by 3 minutes, the driver Red Bull showed himself to be even better by setting a lap in 1'26"479. It's another humiliation for the competition since Nico Rosberg completes the first row more than half a second behind while Mark Webber completes with Fernando Alonso the second row by being one second behind his teammate for his last qualifications in F1.

La Mercedes de Lewis Hamilton completes the top five ahead of the Lotus of Romain Grosjean. If the Frenchman seemed to be in difficulty yesterday on the wet Interlagos track, the former GP2 Series champion found a boost in performance and seemed able to aim for the front. Despite his quick switch to intermediate tires in the last session, the French driver was ultimately only in sixth place ahead of the Toro Rosso de Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, the latter having almost failed in Q1 due to a bad strategy from his team. Felipe Massa will start from ninth place for his final race with the Team Ferrari while Nico Hulkenberg will complete the fifth line.

Heikki Kovalainen failed at the gates of Q3 only a hundredth behind the first Sauber. The Finn is ahead of Paul di Resta's Force India and the Williams de Valtteri Bottas who will aim for points again. Sergio Pérez had time to set the 14th fastest time before crashing into the wall after spinning. The Mexican is doing well but the same is not true for his MP4-28. His teammate Jenson Button follows in 15th position, McLaren clearly suffering in these soggy conditions also expected for the Grand Prix. Adrian Sutil only got 16th place on the grid ahead of Pastor Maldonado and Esteban Gutiérrez. Charles Pic is 19th ahead of his teammate Giedo van der Garde and the Marussias of Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton.

The start of the Brazilian Grand Prix will be given tomorrow at 17 p.m. and will be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Photos of the tests can be found on this link.
