Sebastian Vettel towards gap year for Mark Webber

Mark Webber, teammate of Sebastian Vettel from the time of the domination of Red Bull Racing on F1 between 2010 and 2013, believes that the four-time world champion is heading towards a sabbatical year after the announcement of the end of his collaboration with the Team Ferrari at the end of 2020.

« I think he will take a year off, says Webber, in the F1 Nation podcast. I hope for all of us, that he can re-energize himself and regain the spirit of wanting to get back to the top of Formula 1.

I think he can reinvent himself, but he has to have the right context. I think he really, really, really misses the English way of racing [like at Red Bull]. »

Ferrari and Vettel had recently announced not to extend their joint adventure, initiating a real game of musical chairs on the transfer market, sending Carlos Sainz in Maranello and Daniel Ricciardo in McLaren.

The solutions to see Sebastian Vettel on the 2021 grid seem to be reducing as the days go by, since the Mercedes option does not seem possible according to Valtteri Bottas. But in the transfer market, you never know.

A sabbatical year which could also allow the German driver to judge the possibilities offered by the different teams by the future F1 regulations, postponed from 2021 to 2022 in the face of the coronavirus pandemic which had stopped all activity in recent months.
