Jaime Alguersuari knows the house well Red BullThe 35-year-old Spaniard was once one of the young protégés of the Austrian team, even playing for Toro Rosso for two and a half seasons between 2009 and 2011. The Barcelona player gave his opinion on the current situation of Liam Lawson, demoted to Racing Bulls after two Grands Prix as teammate of Max Verstappen.

« Liam is new, he didn't know the car, he didn't know the team, he didn't know the tracks, so we had to give him a little time. » assures Alguersuari on the Formula 1 site.

« La F1 It's now a matter of small details. The tires have to be in the optimal operating window, otherwise the grip is insufficient and you can easily lose four or five tenths. If you watch Liam's onboard cameras in Australia and China, you'll see that he struggled to find grip everywhere. »

« Liam isn't as bad as he looks. You could have expected him to struggle early in the season, and he wouldn't have been as bad later on. You can't be a hero and become the worst driver in one or two races. »

Alguersuari: "Verstappen is probably the best F1 driver of all time"

According to the Catalan, there is no point in trying to compare the second Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen.

« In 24 races, no one will be faster than Max in this team, comments Alguersuari. He's probably the best F1 driver of all time. His ability to drive an understeering car, an oversteering car, is on another level: he's ahead of everyone else. »

The former teammate of Sébastien Buemi in Faenza believes that Liam Lawson could find the psychological resources to remobilize.

« F1 has become so psychological. To recover, you just have to pull yourself together, understand your positives, your highs, and be super optimistic. You have to understand that before, you weren't a bad driver. »

« I think for Liam it's now a new scenario where he just needs to feel comfortable in the car again, work with the engineers, work with the team, find the rhythm that he was missing and try to get there step by step. »

Jaime Alguersuari also believes that "[tsunoda] has nothing to lose. This will be his home Grand Prix. He knows the track very well, he's had some very solid and consistent races, with good performances. He's very motivated to join the big team, so I think it's going to go well for him, honestly. »

« I would be surprised if he was much slower than Max. I think he will be, but no more than half a second, six tenths of a second. Doing better than Liam in the first two races is definitely achievable, although I don't think it's fair to Liam. [to be pushed aside].

« Keeping this seat at Red Bull for long? I don't know. You never know with Red Bull. At least he's in the best possible situation among all their young drivers. [recently], I would say. »

Lawson-Red Bull isn't great, I prefer Lawson-Coke.

Red Bull #neverlikeelsewhere both in terms of team operations and driver management, especially the young drivers! I doubt Tsunhonda is up to the task, but Red Bull doesn't care because it could be destroyed since it's leaving the cans at the end of the season. And if Red Bull finishes 3rd or 4th in the Constructors' Championship, that means overtime in the wind tunnel, even if it will cause a lot of grumbling in Milton Keynes regarding the 2025 variable part of employees

I don't think it's a driver problem. We saw it last year, when the RB20 started to show signs of weakness, Verstappen compensated with his exceptional driving, and they didn't listen to Perez who had been very good at the start of the season, and therefore credible. Being a good driver isn't just about going fast but also about steering the team in the right direction, because the driver doesn't do everything, you need a good car when the competition is improving. I'm more and more convinced that it's the blind trust they have in Verstappen that led RBR astray, and that he took them in the wrong direction. The proof is that the car has been almost undriveable for him since half of last season. And even Newey, who was no longer listened to in favor of the demigod Verstappen, got tired of it and jumped ship, probably knowing what was happening and what would happen. Today, Verstappen is struggling to stay in touch with McLaren and Mercedes, and no one else can drive the car. But Verstappen won't go down with the ship; this emergency meeting at RBR is a sign that he's having second thoughts, and he'll move on, leaving them with the hot potato.
