Contrasted feelings at Red Bull after the first runs

One ends up at the front, the other in the wall. The Marina Bay street circuit held mixed fortunes for the drivers Red Bull on this Friday in Singapore.

Announced among the favorites ahead of the race weekend in the city-state, Max Verstappen confirms his good intentions by signing the best time of the opening session. The Dutchman continued in the evening with the second fastest time in EL2, 0''184 behind the reference established by Lewis Hamilton

“The general feeling is very good and the car behaves well, Verstappen reported. Of course, there are always things to improve but we are already working on it.

We look very competitive but so does Lewis. I am happy with this first day, whether in terms of long relays or in terms of qualifying simulations.”

The Batavian even believes that he could have gone even faster if he had not encountered traffic in the last sector during his best flying lap.

On the other side of the garage, Alexander albon had a more complicated start, marked in particular by a broken front wing under the 1500 floodlights which lined the Singaporean track. In the end, the Thai rookie finished 5th in FP1, more than 1″2 behind his leader.

“The track is very technical and not easy to tame, explained Albon. It wasn't the best day, I got my bearings. My best time is not catastrophic.

The lap before the incident, I locked the wheels. The next loop I was attacking and I locked the wheels in the same place. I just made a mistake.

It's not easy to set a clean lap while being fast. I don’t feel completely confident yet but it will come for qualifying.”

In this flying lap exercise, Verstappen seems for the moment the only one able to tickle Hamilton.
