Sergey Sirotkin joins Renault Sport F1 Team

Renault Sport F1 Team confirmed this morning the recruitment of the Russian Sergey Sirotkin as test pilot “as part of a long-term development program”. The arrival of the driver from the ART Grand Prix team (formerly managed by Frédéric Vasseur, current competition director of Renault Sport Racing) in the Losange fold will allow him to drive this weekend during the first session of free practice for the Russian Grand Prix on the Sochi track, as a replacement from Danish Kevin Magnussen.

“This is an incredible opportunity in my career, confesses the 20-year-old pilot. I hope to make the most of this opportunity which underlines my total commitment to winning the GP2 Series title. I would also like to thank SMP Racing for their tremendous support for my career from Sochi under the watchful eye of my compatriots. »

“Sergey is one of the most promising drivers of his generation in Russia and it is therefore excellent news to have him with us at Renault Sport, continues Frédéric Vasseur. He has emerged as one of the most successful debutants in the GP2 Series with a victory and several podiums last year. For 2016, he is very well placed to play for the title. Sergey has already driven a GP2 at the Sochi Autodrome, so we are confident in the job he can do for us this weekend. »

Sirotkin had already performed in free practice in 2014, already on the Sochi track with Sauber F1 Team.
