Sergio Pérez tamed the elements in Monaco to become the most victorious Mexican in the history of the Formula 1. With her Red Bull, Checo was not, however, one of the favorites at the start of the Grand Prix. Qualified in 3rd position behind the two Ferraris, it was in the pit lane that he claimed his victory. While the Team wasted precious seconds Charles Leclerc by attempting a double pit stop, the native of Guadalajara took the lead.

At the finish of the Grand Prix and after a lap of honor with his national flag in his hands, Sergio Pérez still couldn't believe it. “ It's a dream come true. As a driver you dream of winning here. After the home race, I think there is nothing more special than winning this weekend, so to do it and the way we did it… It was harder for us in the end . With the graining I couldn't make any mistakes to get the car home and keeping Carlos behind wasn't easy too. »

A better strategy that offers victory to Sergio Pérez

Author of a faultless track, not without a scare after locking his wheels when restarting the race, the Mexican finished the Grand Prix in pain with his medium tires. “ I wanted to do another race, the graining was going away so I wanted to get back on the car, I was super excited, jokes Sergio Pérez who fell inside his car while wanting to celebrate his victory. It's a great day for me and for my country.

I am very, very happy. Today I wore Pedro Rodríguez de la Vega's helmet (Mexican driver, winner of two Grands Prix), I'm sure that up there (he points to the sky. Editor's note) he is super proud of what we have accomplished together in this sport. » Before him, it was Pedro Rodríguez de la Vega who held the title of the most victorious Mexican driver in Formula 1. With his victory in Monaco, Sergio Pérez pays homage in the best possible way to his counterpart who died at the Nürburgring in 1971 and adds his name to the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix prize list.
