Sergio Pérez confirmed at Force India in 2019

Sergio Pérez will continue to wear the colors of Racing Point Force India next season. Expected for several weeks, the contract renewal of the 28-year-old driver was announced this Thursday ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin.

A member of Force India since 2014, the Mexican has scored five podiums there, the last coming in Baku earlier in the season. Pérez was also behind the team's placement in receivership at the end of July, which precipitated its sale to the Racing Point consortium led by Lawrence. Stroll.

« Since 2014, I have felt at home at Force India, declared the person concerned. The team allowed me to grow and develop my driving skills. We have enjoyed great success together over the past five seasons and I am convinced that the best is yet to come. The arrival of new investors gives me full confidence in the future ».

Lache par McLaren after just one season in 2013, Pérez was able to bounce back intelligently at Force India where he greatly contributed to the team's progression in the world hierarchy. The ex-Jordan structure remains on a pair of 4th places in the Manufacturers' standings and would still be fighting for this rank at present if it had not had to start from 0 in the championship from the Belgian Grand Prix, consequence of the change of owners.

« Sergio offers us welcome stability for the future of the team, he is a valuable asset in our development », commented for his part Otmar Szafnauer, CEO of Force India.

The identity of Pérez's teammate has not yet been revealed but there is almost no doubt that it will be Lance Stroll, current driver. Williams, and son of Lawrence Stroll, new master of the place at Racing Point Force India. The Canadian will then take the place of the Frenchman Esteban Ocon, who should extend his relationship with the team in a reservist role alternating with Mercedes
