Sergio Pérez extends contract with Force India for 2018

Esteban Ocon et Sergio Pérez will still be teammates with Force India in 2018. The Mexican has been confirmed by Vijay Mallya's structure this Sunday morning, a few hours before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Arrived at the team based in England in 2014 after starting at Sauber then a complicated stint at McLaren, the native of Guadalajara has scored four podiums for Force India since his debut in the Indo-British single-seaters.

Sergio Pérez will thus play his fifth season with the team which still counts on the support of Mercedes in terms of engine supply. The contract extension between the two parties had been in the air for several weeks.

« Staying with Force India remained my priority, comments Pérez. It's a team that allowed me to show my talents and I feel very happy here. I'm proud of everything we've already achieved together and I think there's even more to come.

The team has done an incredible job this year developing the car and positioning us as the fourth best team in the field. Finally, it was an easy decision to continue our joint adventure. »

« Sergio has played an important role in our recent successes, believes for his part the big boss Vijay Mallya. Since his arrival in 2014, he has matured into one of the fastest and most consistent drivers.

His results place him as Force India's most successful driver with four podium finishes. With Esteban, Sergio's extension gives us stability for next season and one of the most exciting driver duos in the Formula 1 »

A tandem which, however, created more than sparks during the last meetings, notably with a double contact during the Belgian Grand Prix and a strong tension between the two men.
