Pierre Gasly wears many hats, both literally and figuratively. The Norman is not only a pilot, but he is also a shareholder in the FC Versailles football club and mentor to Alessandro Giusti in Formula 3. Alas, if there is one role he does not (yet) have, it is that of manager. If the Frenchman cannot act on the expenses of the team Alpine, nor on the direction to follow concerning the allocation of financial and human resources for the development of the car, the Rouen native has one wish for this year: to move as quickly as possible to the 2026 campaign and its new technical regulations.

"If it were up to me, the entire budget would be spent on 2026, but I don't have control of the budget, regretted Pierre Gasly with humor, on the sidelines of the event F1 75 live. Whether it's good or bad, I don't know, but I don't care if I'm eighth, ninth or tenth. I want to win, I want to finish on the podium and I know it won't be easy to make up the gap this year. But I know that in 2026 we will start with the same weapons as the other teams and it will be up to us to provide the best possible car."

“There is much more to be gained in 2026” Gasly recalls

Next year, Formula 1 is about to experience a technical revolution with brand new regulations that will affect the chassis, aerodynamics and engines of single-seaters. An upheaval of an unprecedented scale in the XNUMXst century, so great that it arouses covetousness and apprehension. For Pierre Gasly, it is a golden opportunity for Alpine to break the glass ceiling that has been blocking the progression of the A arrow for several years and to finally play at the forefront. The Frenchman would even be ready to sacrifice the 2025 season to best prepare for 2026.

“As a driver, every time I get in the car I want the fastest package possible, so that doesn’t change the mindset for 2025, but more broadly I know there’s a lot more to gain in 2026 than I can fight for in 2025, stressed the Norman, who specifies that the roadmap ofAlpine is already well established for the coming season. That's why we have to be smart about how we do things. The good thing is that the budget is already decided for this year, the improvements are almost all validated as well, so we have a clear plan, and we just have to trust our tools and make sure we make the right decisions for our future."

After miraculously finishing in 6th place in the Constructors' Championship in 2024 thanks to a fantastic end to the season, Alpine aims for 5th place in 2025 with the ambition of riding on the good momentum of last year's Grands Prix. Nevertheless, the long-term objective is to aim for podiums and victories with the arrival of the new technical regulations in 2026: Flavio Briatore, executive advisor ofAlpine F1 Team, told us last December that he was "I am sure that in 2026 we can start making podiums and winning races, before fighting for the championship in 2027." Pierre Gasly, the natural leader of the French team, will be responsible for leading the A arrow to achieve this very ambitious objective.

Perhaps a way of saying, between the lines, that we should not expect much from the 2025 season for Alpine, the latest from a home PU?
