Silverstone-EL2: Hamilton confirms, Rosberg stuck in the pits

Contrasted results in the clan Mercedes at the end of this first day of driving in Great Britain. After the double of the two W07 Hybrids de Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg this morning in EL1, mechanical problems on the car of the German pilot came to tarnish the picture in the afternoon.

After starting the V6 turbo / hybrid Power Unit of the No. 6 Rosberg, engineers would have detected a water leak, preventing Rosberg from taking the track. The world champion team finally confirmed a few minutes later that the championship leader would not take to the track and began the almost complete dismantling of the Silver Arrow. A detrimental loss of driving time for Rosberg who will have to rely on the last session tomorrow morning to find the right settings for qualifying and the race.

At the chronometric level, Hamilton, with a best time set on soft tires in 1'31″660 (without improving his morning time), ahead of both Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo of 391 thousandths and Max Verstappen of 626 thousandths. The Briton complained about his gearbox during the session, without notable consequences. The Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen (renewed this morning by the Team for 2017), follow in fourth and fifth positions but one second behind Hamilton's benchmark.

Fernando Alonso place first McLaren in sixth place ahead of Williams de Valtteri Bottas and Haas de Romain Grosjean. Jenson Button, who reported driving a car with very precarious grip, and Felipe Massa (Williams) climbed into the top 10. Author of a spin, a figure in which he damaged his front wing, Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) ranks 13th behind Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso) and Esteban Gutiérrez (Haas).

In sight this morning in EL1, the Force Indias of Hulkenberg and Pérez did not shine in EL2, only taking 15th and 16th places ahead of Pascal Wehrlein (Manor). THE Renault by Palmer and Magnussen finish in 18th and 20th positions.

The third and final free practice session will take place tomorrow morning before qualifying which will be followed live on our website.
