Silverstone: Hamilton snatches pole from Vettel

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) claimed his sixth pole at the British GP, his fourth in a row and the 76th of his career, but the local star of the event had to fight to gain the advantage against his main opponent Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari). The German was in the lead during the first attempt, but the Briton responded by setting a time of 1'25''892 during his second attempt to beat the other quadruple world champion by 44 thousandths.

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) will start on the second row in front of the Red Bull de Max Verstappen et Romain Grosjean and Haas de Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean. Charles Leclerc (Sauber) and Esteban Ocon (Force India) completed the Top 10.

Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) was the first eliminated from Q2 by failing a few hundredths behind Esteban Ocon's Force India. The German preceded Sergio Pérez (Force India), Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) and Marcus Ericsson (Sauber).

Carlos Sainz Jr (Renault) was the first eliminated from Q1. The Spaniard failed half a tenth behind Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso), last qualified for the second qualifying session, which saw the suspension changed after testing following teammate Brendon Hartley's accident in EL3 who was unable to participate in qualifying. The Hispanic driver who had never missed Q3 this season beat Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) and Sergey Sirotkin (Williams).

Lance stroll (Williams) did not have time to set a time. The Canadian made a mistake by losing the rear of his FW41 at the start of Q1 on his first flying lap. His teammate Sergey Sirotkin also went off the track, but the Russian was only able to set the last time.

The start of the British Grand Prix will be at 15 p.m. French time. The race will be followed live on Canal+ and with our live text.
