Silverstone, the temple of speed?

The Silverstone circuit, modernized in order to best honor the contracts linking it to the disciplines of motorsport, in particular MotoGP to the F1, changed his face. The portion of the circuit between the Abbey and Brooklands corners has been simplified, lengthened by 760 meters, in order to raise the average speed of the circuit and offer two new overtaking possibilities.

« The new section of the circuit and the improvements elsewhere are fantastic, confides Damon Hill, president of the British Racing Driver?s Club, owner of the Northamptonshire track. These changes provide a new driving challenge, a better spectator experience and give us more flexibility regarding the different configurations we could use. »

According to various projections, the average speed of the British circuit, during a Formula 1 Grand Prix, could thus exceed 250 km/h and, therefore, rival Monza. The latter, nicknamed “the temple of speed” because of its high average speed, could thus be dethroned in this register by Silverstone. Verdict on July 11, during the British Grand Prix, which will still be hosted for many years by Silverstone, which should have handed over to Donington this season.
