Silverstone optimistic with the arrival of Liberty Media

The future of the Silverstone circuit has been in question sincea letter from the British Racing Drivers' Club, owner of the circuit, was addressed to its members fear after Christmas. BRDC CEO John Grant even had to communicate to respond to speculation that the event would disappear after 2019, while recognizing that the subject was being studied.

The resumption of the F1 by Liberty Media and the resulting projects for the future of the discipline, however, seem to make the BRDC optimistic for the sustainability of its event.

“This announcement has clearly changed the year 2017, recognized Derek Warwick, president of the BRDC, in an interview with Sky Sports. We know where we are going with Liberty and with Silverstone. We are very confident to make a profit in 2017.”

“(Carey, the F1 chief executive) told us that he could remove some of the restrictions that Bernie (Ecclestone) had put in place in recent years. This concerned in particular the sale of products, marketing, sponsors… We know that certain circuits benefit from better flexibility. They can therefore make Silverstone more profitable”, added Derek Warwick.

The old pilot Renault believes that the Silverstone circuit is the only one capable of hosting F1 in Great Britain. The organizers had to carry out significant work in recent years to meet the new standards required by the discipline.

“There is no other circuit in Britain that can host the Grand Prix without making significant investment. We are talking about hundreds of millions. The London project has been discussed for 10 or 20 years. I know Chase (Carey) and Liberty would like to go to every city in the world, but we can't imagine a Grand Prix held in Hyde Park. It's impossible ", warned Derek Warwick.
