Silverstone ready to host two consecutive races

Issued by Zak Brown, boss of McLaren, the idea of competing in two races in a row F1 on the same circuit to respond to the crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic seems to be making headway.

Stuart Pringle, director of the Silverstone complex in England, says he is in favor of the idea, arguing that the venerable circuit across the Channel is fully ready to meet the demand of F1 and Liberty Media.

“We discussed all kinds of permutations, including hosting two races on one weekend and two races on consecutive weekends, comments the manager quoted by The Guardian.

I have full confidence in our ability to organize these events. We have a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge, we can clearly achieve this.

F1 has worked very hard to try to find the solution for the world championship. We have been in regular contact with them, and we have been asked if we could organize a race or two and if they could be behind closed doors. The answer is absolutely: we are open to everything. »

The question of the public is in fact at the heart of the decisions to be taken for F1, with promoters and the championship having to comply with future rules decreed by governments on population gatherings.

Several countries like Germany or Belgium have recently banned all mass events until the end of August, leading to the postponement of several major events such as the 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium.

For Stuart Pringle, the first announcements on such a plan could be made at the beginning of May, when several European countries, including France, could be on the verge of lifting the first containment measures.
