Silverstone – Räikkönen admits his mistake

Was Kimi Räikkönen intentionally a little too aggressive or did he just misjudge his braking distance? Only the Finn has the answer to this question, but his clash with Lewis Hamilton in the first lap of the British GP (see video) in any case condemned the local star to a comeback race, the latter having spun before returning to the track in the last row.

“I feel sorry for Lewis, declared the 2007 world champion just after the race. I locked my front wheels while braking in turn 3 and was unable to avoid contact. It was my fault and I deserved this penalty. »

The stewards actually imposed a ten-second penalty on the Finn, which did not prevent him from reaching the last step of the podium behind his British rival.

“I continued to attack, firstly by confronting the Red Bull and aiming for the podium after the race was interrupted. Valtteri was struggling with his tires in the final laps and I was able to pass him quite easily. The race was not without problems for me and the result is rather positive,” he added.

At the end of the British GP, Kimi Räikkönen occupies third place in the Championship, 44 points behind Lewis Hamilton, ahead of five points. Daniel Ricciardo.
