Silverstone – Ricciardo frustrated after losing his DRS

Daniel Ricciardo did not have all the weapons to fight in qualifying for the British GP. The Australian lost his DRS on his first attempt in Q3 and failed to improve thereafter. The pilot Red Bull had to settle for 6th place on the Silverstone grid with half a second behind his teammate Max Verstappen.

“I don’t know why, but I lost my DRS in Q3 on my first attempt, confirmed the winner of the last Chinese GP. The team was able to fix the problem afterwards, but my first lap was the best. It was all the more frustrating to press the button and nothing happened as we lost time on the straights. It clearly cost me a lot of time, around 2 or 3 tenths. Even though I don't think I could have improved my position on the grid, it's still frustrating. »

Red Bull's hopes remain limited for the British GP, with the gap between the RB14s and the Mercedes et Ferrari.

“We still didn’t have the potential to face Mercedes and Ferrari. It’s a real motor circuit with many corners driven hard. You therefore have to have a lot of support and you therefore lose speed on the straights. We tuned the car to be more economical with the rear tires.", explained the Australian.

The latter is nevertheless counting on a race with twists and turns, estimating that the high temperatures will force the teams to adopt strategies with several stops.

“It shouldn’t be a boring race with just one stop. It should be even warmer and the two-stop strategy should work. We chose to keep a set of soft tires in Q2 in case we wanted to use them at the start of the race., he said.

Daniel Ricciardo maintains the advantage over his teammate Max Verstappen in the Championship but his lead is only three points against the Dutchman.
