Silverstone: Verstappen remains confident despite his exit

Max Verstappen did not have an idyllic first day of testing at the British GP. After experiencing gearbox problems at the end of FP1, the driver Red Bull made a mistake in the first minutes of the second practice session, damaging his RB14 against the wall.

“I wanted to be too fast on the hard tires and I lost control, recognizes the recent winner of the Austrian GP. It's definitely not the best way to end the day like this, but I had a good feeling behind the wheel before it happened. We have made good progress with the settings, we are just losing a lot of time on the straights. »

If Max Verstappen wants to be optimistic about the potential of Red Bull Racing at Silverstone, he remains realistic about his regular chances against Mercedes et Ferrari, Daniel Ricciardo finishing EL2 in fifth place, more than eight tenths behind the benchmark set by Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari).

“It looks like we won't be able to fight for pole, but we'll still try to go for it again tomorrow. I was able to at least keep two sets of soft tires, that’s the positive point, adds Max Verstappen. I expected the track to be smoother with the new surface, but it really wasn't. Some rather disturbing bumps have disappeared, but the track is still pleasant. »
