Singapore: Vettel finds it hard to believe

Sebastian Vettel offered to the Team Ferrari his first pole in three years (the last dating from the 2012 German GP with Fernando Alonso) by dominating qualifying for the Singapore GP. The four-time world champion, who won his 46th pole in F1 (Ferrari's 208th) and his third on this urban circuit, completed a lap of the 5,065km track in 1'43"885, more than a second better than the performance of Lewis Hamilton last year.

But it is above all the gap on his pursuers which surprised him since he is ahead of his closest rival, Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), half a second, while the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are on the third row. “I know it’s only Saturday and the hardest part is tomorrow, but I have to enjoy this moment.”, said the former Red Bull driver whose last pole dates back to the 2013 Brazilian GP. “I felt in good shape before qualifying. The car has been fantastic. I was surprised by the gap, but I did an almost perfect lap…”

S the Silver Arrows, beaten for the first time this season in this exercise, are behind, Sebastian Vettel remains suspicious of his opponents' performances race. “I'm in a good position, but I'm still confident that Mercedes will be fast tomorrow. It would be surprising if it were otherwise. With the Red Bulls at the forefront, this result is already a surprise”, added the German.

His teammate Kimi Räikkönen will start from third position between the two Red Bulls. “ I wasn't really happy with the last practice session for some reason and so I'm a bit surprised to be here after such a difficult day. I hope we will have both cars on the podium.", commented the 2007 world champion.
