Smedley: Williams will be more comfortable than in practice

After a sparkling 2014 season, Williams Racing is expected to turn the corner this year. The pressure is on the shoulders of the Grove team a few days before the start of the season at the Australian GP in Melbourne.

Rob Smedley, Williams' head of performance, is nevertheless confident about the performance of the FW37 which should be more comfortable than on the tracks of Jerez and Barcelona used in winter tests. “We did our tests on circuits which do not highlight the qualities of the FW37 well. We are therefore impatiently awaiting the first races which should better correspond to the characteristics of the FW37. »

The British team's engineer also knows what to expect this weekend. “Melbourne is always an interesting event with lots of unknowns. It is an urban route where grip improves over the weekend. Understeer is important at the start because the track is dirty while it is the rear tires which can set the limits later in the weekend. You can also have graining on the front tire if the temperatures are cool. »
