Poll – Does Daniel Ricciardo’s fastest lap pose a problem of sporting fairness?

The "case" of Daniel Ricciardo's fastest lap in the race has been much talked about in Singapore as the point he deprived Lando Norris of could count for a lot at the end of the season. So, do you think Red Bull/Racing Bulls' order is unfair to the competition?

In a Singapore Grand Prix that lacked animosity, the subtlety of the clan Red Bull/Racing Bulls spiced up the debate after the finish. The cause? The decision to bring in Daniel Ricciardo a third time to put on soft tires and achieve the fastest lap caused a lot of noise.

On paper, there should be nothing shocking but on closer inspection, it hid more. Because by setting the fastest lap in the race while finishing 18th, the Aussie deprived Lando Norris to score 26 points and not 25 for his victory, and thus to return to 51 lengths of Max Verstappen.

Behind the scenes, Zak Brown has been very critical of the fact that one team can hold another in the field – Red Bull owns Racing Bulls – in the interests of sporting fairness. So what do you think?

Great idea, it would eliminate the possibility of sacrificing a driver out of the points by making an extra stop just to steal the point for the fastest lap, and that solves the problem. But F1 and good ideas don't always go well together...

Quite simply, without going into political considerations, alliances, plots, cheating or others, if a car cannot score points (because it is outside the first 10 places), it should not be able to officially perform the best lap in the race and therefore not impact the points awarded.

"for the driver" as well as for the car.

This could have been done discreetly via SMS or WhatsApp without going through the radio. The fact that Verstappen thanks Ricciardo in the deceleration lap is a bit of a sign of the "conspiracy" side of the Red Bull clan, contrary to the spirit of the current regulations. But isn't F1's favorite sport to try to interpret all the regulations as much as possible without getting caught? McLaren's "mini-DRS" very recently unmasked is also proof of this ... but as luck would have it, it was only planned to be used again in one GP of the last 7 races of the 2024 season. Zak BROWN can still complain but he is hardly more irreproachable than his colleagues in the F1 swamp

And the front wings of all F1s with calibrated flexion to arrive exactly at the level of the small fixed part on the side of the nose? As Vasseur claims, this would be a gray area of the regulations?!! My eye! They complain and denounce McLaren only because the 9 other teams did not know how to do it

"review the system"?! What a strange formulation, this must be formally prohibited AND immensely repressed: Huge fine, cancellation of the said best lap, exclusion from the GP for the driver who benefits from the crime, at least!

For ages, F1 has been standardized. Gone are the days of the 70s and 80s when you could have 1, 2, 3 or 4 cars per team, with different colors in addition... By the regulations, signed by the ten teams, it is mentioned that there must be 2 cars per team. Period. Using a "second" team is therefore good if not illegal, at least inconsistent with the spirit of the regulations. And what is the point of making a budget cap if in the end we short-circuit it with this kind of practice? So obviously we can do them quietly and not show off too much, but asking Max to Thank Daniel in the return lap is signing his forfeit. And it is a little more serious than saying bad words. This, in terms of sportsmanship, is closer to the parking lot at La Rascasse... I understand Brown, while telling myself that he would have done the same if he had a junior team, alas...

There you have it, exactly what Zak Brown denounced some time ago, that is to say the collusion between two teams belonging to the same owner to rig the championship. If the FIA does not react, the customer teams will distort the championship by blocking a competitor from their factory team, or what happened in Singapore. And using Ricciardo like this before firing him is shameful. RBR is showing worrying signs of feverishness and lack of fair play.

Hilarious!! You live in a world of Care Bears! And coming from Brown, a character who allows himself to tear up Pourchaire's contract without any qualms, there's something to laugh about!

The Care Bears world is the one we should reach if there weren't people who are too self-centered... It's all well and good to laugh, but what do you propose? The law of retaliation is not quite that of sport: in the latter there are rules a little more subtle than inflating the biscotos.
