Spa: the Fisichella sensation!

For fans of traditional battles Ferrari - McLaren, this 2009 season of Formula 1 is very curious. After Brawn GP's dazzling start to the season, the domination of Red Bull at the end of spring, the return of the big cars during the summer, this Belgian Grand Prix provides a first completely upset verdict. At the forefront of the qualifying session are drivers who have been accustomed, in recent weeks, to being eliminated at the start of the session. Giancarlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli and Robert Kubica, among others, were able to beat the odds.

But it is Giancarlo Fisichella who created the sensation of the weekend. The Force India driver, however, had warned during free practice, with a sixth place on Friday afternoon and an eighth position on Saturday morning. And, in qualifying, the Italian driver has always been at the forefront. “ It?s simply incredible, released “Fisico” at the end of the session. I was fastest in Q1, fourth in Q2 then I took pole position. It's fantastic, incredible, I'm really happy. I really didn't expect this result. »

Force India has shown, in recent races, that its cars can occasionally fight at the pace of the best. This time, the green and orange cars were able to be fast all weekend. And Giancarlo Fisichella, undoubtedly re-motivated by his possible freelance at Ferrari to replace Luca Badoer, finished the job. “ I am happy from a personal point of view but also for the whole team, for the engineers, everyone. They have done a huge amount of work to get there. With our budget, I didn't think we could do it. »

If his team did everything so that the Italian could take pole (little fuel in Q3), Fisichella is sure of the performance of his car. “ I was fourth in Q2, so I wasn?t that slow », concluded the Roman. Whatever his result on Sunday in the race, Giancarlo Fisichella has just written a page in Force India history.
