Steiner: “We took the risk of a penalty” in Hungary

The duel had no real stakes, but the battle for this 13th place was lively between Kevin Magnussen et Daniel Ricciardo at the Hungarian GP. The pilot Haas again did everything to block his opponent by changing trajectories several times, forcing the Australian to lift his foot to avoid contact.

“The race direction said he had to stop changing direction when braking, nothing more, explained Haas Team Principal Günther Steiner on Fox Sports. But given that there is a driver who does it constantly and gets away with it, that was our answer. In any case, we had a great fight for 13th and 14th places while it was boring the rest of the time on TV. »

Günther Steiner admits, however, that Kevin Magnussen's driving was reprehensible. Haas management appears to be seeking to stay in the spotlight as it struggles to finish races in the points.

“We even took the risk of receiving a penalty or going to the commissioners because I think we are here to race and I don't think that is dangerous, he added. This fight didn't count for anything and it at least offered a nice spectacle and a nice fight. It's certain that Ricciardo is not happy about it, but I don't think Kevin did anything excessive. He was trying to protect his position and everyone took advantage. »

Kevin Magnussen is known for his aggressive defense. Günther Steiner stepped up several times to defend his driver.
