Stoffel Vandoorne remains cautious for 2017

Stoffel Vandoorne still hopes to become a licensed pilot McLaren-Honda in 2017 after distinguishing itself by dominating the 2015 GP2 Series season with ART Grand Prix. The Belgian who will participate on Monday January 25 and Tuesday January 26 in testing Pirelli rain tires at Paul-Ricard (Var) nevertheless remains cautious about his chances of achieving his objective.

“Nothing was promised to me but I continue to work to find my place in F1 because that’s clearly where I want to go”, confirmed the 2012 Eurocup Formula champion Renault 2.0. “I already wanted to be there this year because I feel 100% ready. Unfortunately, there are no places available this season and I have to work towards 2017."

Stoffel Vandoorne does not seem to want to look for a steering wheel with another team. “I feel like I’m in the right place. They believe in my abilities. I don't have any guarantees but it would be a good team to race. I have been working with them for two years and we have experienced many successes together. I hope to be able to evolve on these bases. »

The Belgian is preparing a Super Formula program for the 2016 season even if he has not yet signed a contract. “It’s moving in that direction,” confirmed Stoffel Vandoorne. “McLaren and Honda are discussing it but I am confident that the contract will be confirmed soon. I'm going to have a busy year going to all the Grands Prix with my reserve position at McLaren. I'm going to spend a lot of time on the simulator at the factory with the engineers. It will be good preparation for 2017.”
