Stroll: “It’s more survival than competition”

While Lance stroll competes in his last races with Williams before his departure for Racing Point Force India next year, the Canadian is starting to open up about his situation within the Grove team, whose performances have been significantly down this year.

“It was very difficult. The car simply did not live up to expectations. It's more survival than competition, explains the Williams driver. We were often taken out at the end of Q1. There were also races where I had good starts and was able to score points but then fell down the rankings. We have constantly stayed at the back of the pack this season. The car wasn't really developed from Australia. »

If Lance Stroll had won his first podium in his 8th Grand Prix, he only won 6 points this year, finishing in the points only twice, in Baku (Azerbaijan) and Monza (Italy). The Canadian is only ahead Brendon Hartley (Toro Rosso) and his teammate Sergey Sirotkin in the general classification, while Williams is dead last in the Constructors' Championship.

“It was difficult to see some of our opponents such as Sauber being at our level at the start and then making big progress against us. It was a year of survival, that's all I can say, insists the Canadian. I was still able to develop as a driver, I became more mature. I gained a lot of information and experience even if this season was much more complicated than the first. You have to accept that as a driver, it’s part of the game.”
