Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) will start from pole and will have a good opportunity to take the lead in the Championship, his direct rival Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) having to settle for 6th place on the grid after difficult qualifying in the rain.

It is Lance stroll (Williams) who will have the opportunity to shine, the Canadian having benefited from the drivers' penalties Red Bull Max Verstappen et Daniel Ricciardo to get to the front line. Esteban Ocon (Force India) hopes to secure a podium by starting 3rd in front Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari).

The grid for the Italian GP was turned upside down as no less than 9 drivers were penalized. The Red Bull drivers will start in the second part of the grid. Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) was one of those penalized and had to fall back to 18th position.
