Verstappen, Lawson, Sainz… Where are the drivers with their points-based licenses?

Each driver has 12 points on their license, and as on the road, points can be lost for various infractions (collisions, track limits, etc.). What is the situation of the 20 drivers on the grid after the Bahrain Grand Prix? Max Verstappen is the worst off, since he only has four points left on his license! The Dutchman had a hectic final sprint in 2024, including clashes with Lando Norris in Mexico or more recently with Oscar piastri at the first bend in Abu Dhabi.

In Shanghai, it was Jack Doohan who "showed off" by losing four points on his license in a single weekend: two points in the Sprint following the collision with Gabriel Bortoleto, and two more in the Grand Prix for pushing Isack Hadjar outside the track limits. The last race weekend in Bahrain, meanwhile, resulted in several new penalties. Carlos Sainz and Liam Lawson lost two and three points respectively, both responsible for notable collisions on the exit of Turn 1.

Each point lost is automatically recovered one year after the penalty was imposed: that is, Max Verstappen must wait until June 30, 2025 to recover his first points. If he receives four more penalty points between now and then, he will automatically be suspended for one Grand Prix, as was the case Kevin Magnussen at last year's Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Dane, suspended after receiving 12 penalty points, regained his license after this sanction. In total, 13 drivers currently on the grid have at least one penalty point on their license.
