Taffin (Renault): “We are 100%”

Renault, since the start of the season, can be satisfied with the progress accomplished so far. After a difficult 2009 season, the team from the Losange firm was able to get back on its feet. However, for Rémi Taffin, head of engine operations within Renault F1 Team, things were not revolutionized in the offseason.

In addition, Rémi Taffin confirms the strategy of Eric Boullier and that of Renault F1 Team, which wants to progress little by little. “ Unlike last season, where significant changes were made from time to time, this season the changes are made in small steps, but at each race. »

If Renault is still behind the top four teams (McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes), the margin separating Renault from its predecessors is not enormous. But, for Rémi Taffin, there is still work to do. “ We are clearly not the fastest. But we are at 100% of our possibilities and we progress with each race. »

In terms of engines, progress is also expected, Renault having obtained authorization from the FIA ​​to upgrade its V8 to make it more reliable. “ Our engine is not necessarily the best but we are working on it. »

And, in accordance with the emerging trend, Renault Taffin confides that the French V8 could equip other cars next season. “ Today, nothing has been done but it is very possible that Renault will power another team next season. This will not pose a problem: we have the production capacity and master the technology. »
