Taffin: Renault more confident for 2016

Renault Sport F1 experienced a difficult 2015 season, facing reliability problems coupled with criticism from Red Bull. The Diamond manufacturer failed to take advantage of the developments made to its Power Unit, leaving victory to the Team Ferrari which will have remained the only team able to beat the Mercedes.

“We arrived at the winter tests having made significant progress”, explained Rémi Taffin, the operations director of Renault Sport, on the official F1 website. “That was the case in some areas, but we failed in three important areas. In particular, we had reliability problems with the pistons, electronic problems that we could not identify and difficulties in making decisions. The Power Unit specification for the first race was decided very late in the day. »

Rémi Taffin is nevertheless confident in the future of the French engine, especially since Renault has strengthened its involvement by buying Lotus F1 Team. Viruses-Châtillon also called on Ilmor Engineering which seems to provide effective results.

“They were able to bring different concepts, such as a new combustion concept, and we will continue with them in 2016. We will always develop internally, but partners like Ilmor bring us a wealth of expertise. We didn't take full advantage of this collaboration in 2015 for several reasons, but they are now under our control and we now know where we are going.", added Rémi Taffin.
