Team Lotus continues with Renault in 2013

Team Lotus has chosen to extend its contract linking the team to the French engine manufacturer Renault for the 2013 season. While the engines of the Losange are currently shining with the success of the RB7s of Red Bull, Tony Fernandes chose to retain the engine manufacturer of Viruses-Châtillon after the end of the current contract which will end at the end of next year. The team will also continue to use gearboxes made by Red Bull Technology. Finally, the Malaysian team confirmed that it would benefit from SREC from 2012.

Tony Fernandes does not seem to have thought long to make his decision. “Having established a very good partnership since the early days of our agreement, we are delighted that Renault Sport F1 and Red Bull Technology continue to play a leading role in the development of our team until 2013”, comments the president of Team Lotus. “They will also be likely to work with us when the new regulations come into force (in 2014). We will benefit from the SREC from next season, it will be real progress for the team. »

Jean-François Caubet is the first to welcome Team Lotus' decision to continue its partnership with Renault. “We have built a strong relationship with Team Lotus this year and this announcement confirms the relationship we want to continue for many more seasons”, declares the general director of Renault Sport F1. “Renault is in F1 to demonstrate the quality of its products. We therefore need to partner with teams who have the potential. The progress made by Team Lotus on and off the track makes us confident of achieving these goals. »
