To achieve this, Ferrari would have to score 21 points more than McLaren in the event of victory, or 22 points if Charles Leclerc ou Carlos Sainz did not win the final Grand Prix. Unfortunately, things got off to a bad start for the Monegasque, who was forced to replace his battery during testing. Since the element was not part of the quota tolerated for the year, he was given a 10-place grid penalty. In addition, he missed out on qualifying by a wide margin. Let's not forget that Verstappen gave Ferrari two wins (including a double and a double podium) on a plateau (Austin and Mexico) to prevent Norris from scoring too many points in an unsportsmanlike way. A Ferrari title in these conditions would have had a strange taste...
