Todt: “Some teams may not survive”

The issue of cost reduction continues to be raised in the paddock of the F1. The new regulations allowed the discipline to follow technological advances but this progress was accompanied by an increase in costs linked to more complex motorization. The Sports Commission is therefore considering different solutions to limit expenses, including the reduction of testing which could be limited to two sessions per Grand Prix. However, some teams are not in favor of such changes and the situation seems stuck.

Jean Todt, the President of the FIA, spoke on this subject about his fears regarding the future of F1 in the coming years. “Some teams become reluctant to change.”, recognized the former director of the Team Ferrari to the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten. “I must admit that these proposals are much more complicated than expected. I am aware that we will never reach unanimous agreement and I am therefore seeking to find the best compromise. Some teams may not survive, we have seen this many times. But I remain convinced that current F1 is more stable than that of recent years. And we also want new teams in the discipline. »

The F1 paddock could be strengthened in the coming years by the arrival of two new teams. Embarrassed Haas wants to enter an American team in 2016 while Colin Kolles also wants to register the Romanian project Forza Rossa. But other structures still seem to be in difficulty, with Caterham F1 Team in the lead which recently had to deny speculation announcing its absence from the Austrian Grand Prix.
