The new engines used in World Championships have attracted a lot of attention in recent years. Although they allow manufacturers to highlight new technologies, their creation and development involve significant expenses.
While F1 is in full reflection on its future regulations in 2021, the president of the International Automobile Federation Jean Todt raises the possibility of setting up a common engine between several disciplines in order to limit costs.
“It's not simple, but we should discuss the possibility of using this F1 engine in other motorsport disciplines. For the moment, each category in motorsport has its own regulations. We should study the possibility of having certain synergies”, declared the former director of the Team Ferrari.
While F1 evolves with the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6, Jean Todt is mainly thinking of bringing this technology closer to theEndurance more flexible in terms of motorization.
“We have an Endurance Championship with LMP1, underlined the Frenchman. We have completely different engines. It would therefore make sense to anticipate a future for endurance by exploiting this synergy. By chance they cover the same number of kilometers. »
