Todt: “The idea would be to have 12 teams”

After losing Manor in the winter of 2017, the Formula 1 only welcomes 10 teams in its World Championship. In an interview with the Reuters agency, Jean Todt reveals that several teams could enter the paddock.

« When we know it's time, we'll make an offer, declares the President of the FIA. At the moment we have 10 teams, the idea would be to increase to 12."

Since 2010, 4 new teams have joined the championship and only one has survived, namely Haas F1 Team, arriving in 2016.

« We have the opportunity to get there, if we have one or two strong new teams. There are always rumors, but we already have interest from several teams."

If there is no precise agenda on the table, Jean Todt still considers the idea of having two additional teams from 2018 absurd.
