Top 5 motorsport video games in 2018

5. RaceRoom WTCR
Only available on PC, the RaceRoom game is distinguished by a resolutely “simulation” positioning. Previously linked to the WTCC, RaceRoom has adapted to the overhaul of the Touring Championship by offering all the cars and drivers entered in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) in 2018. The WTCR pack will be yours for barely 10 euros during the holiday season, but at this price, You will miss many routes visited this season. Fortunately, the Nordschleife or the formidable Macao are there.

4. Dakar 18
Developed by an independent Portuguese studio (Bigmoon Entertainment), this game is unique. It has been more than fifteen years since the famous rally-raid last had its virtual adaptation. Since Paris-Dakar Rally 2 on PlayStation 2, things have changed a lot!

The immersion is total with huge maps (20 km000 of open world), long stages (more than an hour for some) through Peru, Chile and Argentina and the use of the road book identical to the notebook studied by the competitors of the 2018 edition. Navigation is crucial because you will have to find the way in the desert thanks to the headings given by the co-pilot.

Among the welcome details, note the possibility of staying planted in the dunes, getting out of the vehicle to help a stuck vehicle or the different way-points to be validated under penalty of penalty, as in real life.

Riddled with bugs when it was released at the end of September, Dakar 18 has improved considerably thanks to the will of the developers. The latter released 10 updates in just three months ! Requested by gamers in France, the French voice of the browser is available for free. In addition, the Desafio Ruta 40 (Argentinian rally) will also be added as well as other vehicles to the existing classes (cars, motorcycles, trucks, SSV).

3. V-Rally 4
If the license will not speak to the youngest, the return of the V-Rally saga will revive old memories for many gamers who remember their time with the legendary Subaru Impreza on the first generation of 3D consoles. The French studio Kylotonn, which produces the opuses of the saga WRC, therefore decided to surf on the nostalgic side by offering a 4th opus, more than 16 years after the release of the last part.

But unlike the official license, the developers sought to get closer to the Dirt game by offering different disciplines with the Rallycross, the hill race, the Gymkhana and the buggy events, in addition to the traditional specials. The content also clearly differentiates itself from WRC games by offering players more exotic destinations with Monument Valley and Sequoia National Park for America, Japan and Malaysia for Asia, as well as Kenya and Siberia. If the variety of settings is appreciable, the lack of course becomes felt after a few hours of play, since each event only has three special stages.

The same goes for other disciplines which fortunately avoid too much redundancy. Career mode, on the other hand, is not very motivating to the extent that the only progression is made through the gains obtained through victories, allowing you to strengthen your team and fill your garage with the few dozen cars available.

Like its rival from Codemasters studios, the difficulty is difficult to understand (although configurable) and we often find ourselves going from young beginner to Sébastien Ogier without fully understanding exactly what has changed. The title of Kylotonn in any case expands the shelves by offering a game that does honor to the series, even if the content would have deserved a little more density to achieve reference status.
Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC from €55

2. Grand Touring Sport
Certainly, it is not a new game. But with its 11 updates (and especially free!) since its release on October 17, 2017, the latest addition to the GT saga has met the expectations of players frustrated by content a little light. Gran Turismo Sport now offers a wide choice of vehicles and circuits.

No less than 98 cars have been added to the 170 initially proposed. All tastes are catered for, with Group C, city cars, Ferrari, and even the Mercedes F1 W08 from 2017. Some legendary tracks (Monza, Le Mans, Fuji) were offered as well as a real career mode (GT League) and a Virtual Reality (VR) mode. Enough to prolong the experience, especially since the purchase price is mini!

1.F1 2018
Soberly titled “F1 2018”, this delivery from the English developers Codemasters takes up the qualities of its predecessor with demanding driving – but fully configurable to be suitable for all audiences – which brings a feeling of realism and immersion enhanced by graphics thinner than the 2017 edition.

Fans will not be disoriented by finding a substantially identical Career mode, even if the Research and Development department has been supplemented with more technical elements to develop and then validate on the track. The French public will be even more immersed in the atmosphere of the Grands Prix by finding the voice of Julien Fébreau which usually operates on Canal +. The developers are also proud to unveil a new facet of the pilot's profession where the relationship with the press is highlighted.

The player will have to answer questions from journalists which will influence his reputation egocentric star or, on the contrary, smooth and "corporate", but this novelty will quickly become marginal and the desire to take to the track will quickly take over.

The creators of F1 2018 have not excluded the nostalgic part of the public and offer all a range of historic cars ranging from the Lotus 72D of 1972 to the Red Bull RB6 from 2010, through the Ferrari 312 T4 from 1979 or the McLaren MP4/4 on which Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna faced each other in 1988. Concerning the famous Halo, the visibility of which could disturb some, an option allows you to remove the central bar. It is these kinds of details that F1 2018 proves to be a quality game in line with the series which has been perfecting for several years.
