Toro Rosso: Franz Tost rules out Carlos Sainz Jr

Who will replace Daniel Ricciardo in Toro Rosso, the sister team of Red Bull next year ? While Antonio Félix Da Costa seemed very well on his way to winning this steering wheel, several people, including Dr. Helmut Marko in the lead, have expressed doubts about the Portuguese driver, member of the Red Bull Junior Team, after his currently disappointing season in Formula Renault 3.5. Also residents of the Austrian team's development program, Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr. were also mentioned, even if the latter, son of the double world champion WRC, is not favored by Franz Tost, Team Principal of Toro Rosso, because of his lack of experience.

“Sainz, Kvyat and Da Costa are three candidates for the seat, confirmed Tost, interviewed by the Spanish newspaper MARCA. But I also believe that Carlos is missing two seasons (Sainz Jr., Editor’s note) and I think that we should not come in Formula 1 before turning 20. You shouldn't expect too much. Carlos must continue to compete in lower formulas, win, grow and then wait to take the big leap. »

That being said, Franz Tost also added that the choice was not solely his. “I don't make the decision alone, there are several people who will decide what is best for everyone. You should never say no to anything, but I don't think Carlos will ride (for Toro Rosso) in 2014. "
