Toro Rosso clears things up with Renault

If the relationship between Toro Rosso et Renault will cease at the end of the season, with the arrival of Honda as engine supplier for the Faenza team, the understanding between the two parties does not seem to be in good shape.

Recently, Cyril Abiteboul, general manager of Renault Sport Racing, indicated in the press that the French engine manufacturer did not hide its questions regarding the use of the Losange Power Unit in the STR12.

The Italian team encountered numerous technical problems, as in Mexico, but also since yesterday in Brazil, with a faulty MGU-H on the car de Pierre Gasly, and a problem finally solved on the car of Brendon Hartley.

Cyril Abiteboul's statements, however, do not seem to be to the taste of Toro Rosso, who reacted in a press release released just before the third free practice session. « Nothing was changed or modified in this facility during the 2017 season except for mid-season cooling upgrades. One of the main reasons for the problems we are seeing is the lack of new Power Unit parts available. We must not forget that they are fighting with Toro Rosso for a better position in the constructors' championship, as Mr Abiteboul suggested, the situation may not be a coincidence, but it is certainly not not due to the Toro Rosso car. »
