Toto Wolff explains having been in discussions with Liberty Media

If Stefano Domenicali, who will leave Lamborghini, has been confirmed by Liberty Media to take over from Chase Carey at the helm of the F1, several names have often been cited to preside over the destiny of the premier category of motorsport.

Among them, Toto wolff came up often in discussions. The boss of Mercedes-AMG F1 recently indicated in an interview with Sky Sports F1 that discussions did take place but were quickly stopped.

“I was in a difficult position, because Liberty Media made me think, comments the Austrian. But I realize that I love the clock and I love the competition. And if you're in that role, it's obviously a totally different game.

There wasn't much sense in pursuing this further because Ferrari made a clear commitment and said “no, we would veto it”. This is why at a very early stage these discussions had to stop. And in a way, they have the right to take this position.

That said, I am happy in my role. I didn't dream of anything else because I have a dream relationship with Mercedes and with all the people in this company. I think we can do more together and grow the company into something that is more than a Formula 1 team, never forgetting that it is the priority to perform well. I see a bright future. »

A future where the position of Toto Wolff within Mercedes, who is reaching the end of his contract this year, could evolve.
