Toto Wolff: “There are just more problems at Ferrari”

While F1 will return to its historic Western European terrain this weekend in Catalonia, Toto Wolff returns to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, where the Silver Arrows once again signed the double there just over a week old.

Toto Wolff: “There are just more problems at Ferrari”

Why do you say, every Friday evening, that Ferrari is stronger when you always end up winning?

It's not a posture. Simply, on Friday we are treated to very strong Ferraris and on Saturday we still think they are going to be a big threat. Charles was undoubtedly the fastest driver on the track this Sunday, but like in Bahrain, everything did not come together well for him.

We signed our fourth double in four races, but that does not change our core thoughts. We still have work to do to better understand our hardware. On Saturday we made changes to have a better car for the race to the detriment of qualifying.

What makes the difference since Melbourne is that the team doesn't make mistakes, the strategies are good, the drivers don't slip a wheel... There are simply more problems at Ferrari.

previously, Mercedes had more difficulty than Ferrari in keeping the tires warm. What have you done to reverse the trend?

We didn't touch anything! Saturday in FP3 we were 1s behind Ferrari because we simply didn't have the tires in the right operating window and today we were in it. This is why I insist that there is still work to be done. We need to understand tires better. In the race, for example, Charles (Leclerc. Editor's note) was literally flying with his Mediums during his first stint, while at the end of the race, Max (Verstappen. Editor’s note) was the fastest.

Fourth double on a track which usually offers surprises. Are you killing the show?

When the races F2 are chaotic and the pilots of F1 look at them, it seems to me that the Grands Prix are suddenly much calmer. Everyone was hoping for neutralizations and there were none. No doubt the pilots know that they must not take risks in Baku.
