Toyoharu Tanabe (Honda): “Our powertrain has potential”

How do you explain the very behind results of the Toro Rosso in Shanghai after the Bahrain fireworks?

The team is currently analyzing data to understand performance variations compared to our rivals. Once we find the answers, I'm sure we'll come back stronger.

How much did the two circuits differ motor-wise?

We optimize our calibrations to adapt to the characteristics of each track and also take the driver into account. There aren't any big differences between the two tracks to be honest, although the temperature changes require adjustments to the cooling. But that remains in the realm of detail.

After three difficult seasons with McLaren, what was the impact of the performance of Pierre Gasly to Bahrain for Honda?

We are convinced that our power unit has potential, enough to compete in the middle of the grid this season. So it was very satisfying to record this convincing result, coupled with a boost for the morale of the team.
