Toyota does not take time off

After a good start to the season, the team which was part of the “broadcasters gang” seems to be falling into line. But for Trulli and Glock, this day of free testing precedes an intense Friday in data analysis.

Toyota does not take time off

Usually fast, Toyota showed themselves behind this Thursday, during the two free practice sessions. The best time goes to Jarno Trulli, author of the 14th time at the start of the afternoon. “ We did our usual work of setting up and testing to find a good balance », confirms Jarno Trulli.

It is true that the team rarely excels on the first day, preferring to do tests on its cars rather than fighting for first places. “ This morning the track was dirty and we didn't have much grip. During the second session, I had some problems with the tires, which quickly deteriorated. We need to study this and find a solution. We have a lot of work but, here in Monaco, we have a full day to do it. It won't be a day off for us tomorrow. »

For Timo Glock, who set the 19th and 18th times during the two sessions, the day was even less successful than that of the Italian. “ It?s not an easy day for me. We tested several aerodynamic mechanical configurations in the morning then, in the afternoon, we worked on the tires. » With such times, it is therefore difficult to expect good performance from the Toyotas.

However, Timo Glock thinks that these times are not references to take into account. “ It is difficult to situate yourself today. The times aren't great but it's hard to judge after free practice. We have to work to get the most out of the tires, which was a challenge in the afternoon. We now have a lot of information to study and we will have improvements before qualifying. » Let's hope for Toyota that Glock is right, because the back of the grid is not used to seeing the Japanese team's single-seaters visit them.
